After watching Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastate his native Puerto Rico, architect Jonathan Marvel knew he needed to do something to give back. Along with a group of friends he launched Resilient Power Puerto Rico, using the strength of renewable, solar energy to bring power back to the island. These solar micro-grids created spaces where people could refrigerate medication, filter water and find refuge in the midst of a humanitarian crisis. At last count, Marvel’s initiative was able to bring power to 20 community centers, helping over 100,000 people in the process. It’s also a huge step towards a sustainable, Earth-friendly future for the island. SUBSCRIBE: https://goo.gl/vR6Acb This story is a part of our Planet Earth series.
